George Square sits in the heart of Glasgow and holds some of the city's architectural gems. Dominating the square is Glasgow City Chambers, a great example of Victorian design. It took 6 years to build and inside has 2 huge marble staircases. The centre is surrounded by statues of historical figures such as Walter Scott, Robert Burns, James Watt, Queen Victoria and more.

We will also have a chance to explore Old Glasgow. It was founded by St Mungo in the 500s who began a religious community and became the city's patron saint. In the medieval times this was a walled citadel but now all that remains is the large Gothic Cathedral and Provand's Lordship; Glasgow's oldest house. This area has a history that also includes that of Scotland's famous guardian, William Wallace. The Necropolis, aka City of the Dead, is a large Victorian cemetery that sits on a hill dominating the landscape.

The Glasgow city tour then explores the rest of the city's highlights. We stop at Glasgow Green, the oldest park in the city and centre point for active events such as the Marathon and Commonwealth Games in 2014. In the centre sits the glass house of People's Palace which was gifted to the underprivileged people of the east end of Glasgow. It also has the largest terracotta fountain in the world, Queen Victoria proudly standing on the top.

Glasgow made the Clyde, but the Clyde made Glasgow is the saying given to the waterfront. This was due to it's importance during the industrial revolution which mainly involved ship building. Since then the area has been regenerated to a modern conference centre. A piece of Glasgow's maritime past sits next to the Riverside Museum, the Glenlee Tallship which has circumnavigated the globe 4 times!

In 1888 Glasgow was named the second city of the empire. Proceeds of this went to building the magnificent Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Spanish Baronial design. Sitting opposite the River Kelvin is the Neo-gothic tower of Glasgow University. Moved here in the 19th century but its history goes much further back. It is the 2nd oldest university in Scotland, founded in 1451. Some of the most important educaters went here and even Albert Einstein gave a lecture here in 1931
