Enjoy a 3 day private tour to Campbeltown, the 5th single malt whisky region in Scotland. The town grew as a key harbour for the Clan Campbell, and it is known for whisky, maritime heritage, and its remote, distinctive character on the Kintyre peninsula. At one point it had around 30 distilleries. Sadly most shut down in the 1920s. Currently there are three active distilleries; Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia. Campbeltown became its own distinctive whisky region in 2009.
This is a bespoke, tailor made private tour and the itinerary and distillery visits can be customized. Pick up is available in Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow. Below is a suggested itinerary.

Day 1: Your driver guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Edinburgh, Stirling or Glasgow. We will make a quick comfort stop at Deanston Distillery where you will have time to check out the shop and café. You are able to order a dram from the menu (note this is not a distillery tour visit).
Then a scenic tour taking us to Loch Awe to enjoy the awesome views to the ruins of Kilchurn Castle. Once a stronghold for the Clan Campbell, it is now in ruins in a picturesque highland setting.
We continue to the seaside town of Oban where you will have free time to grab some lunch. It is known as Scotland’s Seafood capital, so make sure to check out the fish market or one of the many great restaurants. After you will have time to visit the tasting bar at Oban Distillery for a single malt flight.
Then we go on a winding journey through Kilmartin Glen where will stop to see the Templewood Standing Stones.
Overnight will be in Campbelltown or somewhere closeby.

Day 2: Today we will check out the distilleries…
Springbank is the heart of Campbeltown whisky. It is still family owned and still does every stage of production on site, from floor malting to bottling. The whisky is oily, coastal, lightly smoky, and full of character. Springbank is the reason Campbeltown survived the whisky crash and kept its status as a region.
Glengyle is Campbeltown’s revival story. The original distillery closed in 1925 and was rebuilt by the Springbank team in 2004. The whisky is bottled as Kilkerran and has a lighter, fresher style with a clear coastal influence. Its reopening helped secure Campbeltown’s recognition as a whisky region.
Glen Scotia is a Victorian distillery with a strong maritime style. It produces both unpeated and gently peated whisky, known for briny, oily notes that define Campbeltown’s character. After years of uncertainty, it has made a major comeback and now releases some of the region’s most awarded whiskies.
Cadenhead’s is Scotland’s oldest independent bottler and a key part of Campbeltown’s whisky identity. The warehouse tasting lets visitors sample whisky straight from the cask, which shows how the coastal climate shapes maturation. The shop and bar offer rare bottlings and single casks that whisky fans travel for.

Day 3: This morning we leave Campbeltown after breakfast and follow the road north along the Kintyre peninsula, with a last look over Campbeltown Loch before heading inland.
Your first stop is Tarbert. You can walk up to the castle ruins for views over the harbour, or enjoy a coffee by the marina. The castle is linked to Robert the Bruce and gives a good sense of the area’s medieval history.
From there you continue to Inveraray, home of the Campbell clan. When the castle is open you can explore the state rooms and gardens. When it is closed, the town itself is still a great place for lunch and a wander along Loch Fyne.
After Inveraray you travel through Glen Croe and pause at the Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint, one of the most dramatic stretches of road in the Highlands.
The final run takes you along the western side of Loch Lomond, with wide views across the water and wooded slopes. You return to Edinburgh, Stirling or Glasgow in the late afternoon, ending three days of whisky, history, and west coast scenery.
