Shore Excursion to St Andrews
Description
On this tour we offer a short Full day to the historic town of St Andrew's and its famous golf course. This tour is only available from the cruise ports of South Queensferry and Rosyth. From Edinburgh we can only offer this as a full day tour.
On arrival our qualified tourist guide will give you a guided walking tour of the old town. We start with the ruins of the historic St Andrew's Cathedral. It was once the largest cathedral in Northern Europe and a religious centre for Scotland. Building started in 1158 and continued for another 150 years. It was concentrated by Robert the Bruce in 1318 but now sits in ruins.
From here we walk along the waterfront to reach St Andrew's Castle. A medieval castle built for the Bishops of the cathedral. It was the scene of some pivotal events of the Reformation in the 1500s including a battle in the underground tunnels. Here we give you the option to visit the castle to see these tunnels and pit prison.
Next we go to St Andrew's University which is the oldest in Scotland dating to 1410. It still keeps up its ancient traditions such as Raisin Day, the Pier Walk and May Dip. This is also where Kate met Wills. After we can take a walk to the town centre and the Holy Trinity Church.
Before leaving we give you ample time to wonder the Old Course. A must for golf enthusiasts you can have many chances to soak it in. Don't miss the opportunity for a photo of the famous Swilken Bridge and walk in the foot steps of many pro-golfers. You can also buy a score card in the gift shop along with other souvenirs.
