Discover the Kingdom of Fife and the historic town of St Andrews on this privately guided tour from Edinburgh. We begin our journey in the morning and head towards the Firth of Forth, stopping briefly for photos of the iconic 19th‑century Forth Rail Bridge.

Continuing north, we pass Loch Leven and its island castle ruins, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for a year. From here we travel through the Howe of Fife, one of Scotland’s most productive agricultural regions.

In St Andrews you will have almost half a day to explore the town. Your private guide will lead a personal walking tour of St Andrews Cathedral, St Andrews Castle and St Andrews University. Once the religious centre of Scotland, the Cathedral was once as large as Santiago de Compostela and now stands as one of the country’s most atmospheric ruins. As an optional extra, you may visit the Cathedral Museum and/or climb St Rule’s Tower for panoramic coastal views.

A short walk along the shoreline brings us to St Andrews Castle, once home to the Bishops of St Andrews and a focal point of the 16th‑century religious conflicts. Beneath the castle you can explore the remarkable mine and counter‑mine tunnels used during the siege.

St Andrews University, founded between 1410 and 1413, is the oldest in Scotland and still maintains its unique traditions such as Raisin Weekend and the May Dip. We will explore its historic quadrangle and, if open, visit St Salvator’s Chapel.

You will then have free time to wander the town and enjoy lunch. St Andrews is also world‑famous as the Home of Golf. This is the perfect opportunity to browse the many golf shops, walk part of the Old Course, or visit the British Golf Museum.

To end the day, we follow the scenic Fife Coastal Route, an area shaped by centuries of fishing heritage. We stop in the picturesque village of Anstruther before returning to Edinburgh.
