Itinerary

Day 1 – Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye
This is a long but rewarding journey through some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. Departing Edinburgh, we travel through the central belt, passing the mighty Stirling Castle before crossing the Spittal Bridge for views of Doune Castle, known from Monty Python and Outlander.

Entering the Highlands, we continue across the vast moorlands of Rannoch Moor and into Glencoe, a dramatic valley steeped in history and the site of the 1692 massacre of Clan MacDonald. Glencoe has also featured in films including Bollywood’s *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai* and *James Bond: Skyfall*. Lunch will be in Fort William, Scotland’s outdoor adventure capital.

After lunch we visit Glenfinnan for views of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, the Harry Potter bridge used for the Hogwarts Express scenes. Overlooking Loch Shiel, this is also where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the clans in 1745. We then continue to Mallaig to take the short ferry to Skye (seasonal and optional; the itinerary can be adjusted).
Overnight in Broadford, Portree or Kyleakin.

Day 2 – Exploring the Isle of Skye
A full day discovering the Misty Isle, with several options depending on your interests. Northern Skye’s landscapes and geological formations feel almost otherworldly, with some of the oldest rock in the world. The Trotternish Peninsula offers superb photographic opportunities at the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, The Quiraing and The Fairy Pools.

The Museum of Island Life showcases traditional thatched cottages from the 18th century. Nearby is Kilmuir Cemetery, resting place of Flora MacDonald, who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape over the Sea to Skye. Uig is a pretty horseshoe‑shaped bay and departure point for ferries to the Outer Hebrides.

Dunvegan Castle, home of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years, is one of Scotland’s most continuously inhabited castles. In Dunvegan village, the Giant MacAskill Museum tells the story of a real‑life giant standing 7ft 9in. Whisky lovers may choose to visit Talisker Distillery for a taste of Skye’s smoky island spirit.
Overnight in Broadford, Portree or Kyleakin (option to customise and stay the second night near Loch Ness).

Day 3 – Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Ness and Return to Edinburgh
Before leaving Skye, we stop in Kyleakin for views of the Skye Bridge and Castle Moil, once home to Saucy Mary, who famously thanked toll payers in her own unique way.

Next is Eilean Donan Castle, one of the world’s most photographed castles and ancestral home of Clan Mackenzie. Although rebuilt in the 20th century, it stands on the original site and incorporates stones from earlier structures. It also featured in the Highlander movie. You may choose a photo stop or a full visit.

The journey south is filled with scenery. We stop at Loch Ness in hopes of spotting its most famous resident, Nessie. Here you can enjoy a boat ride if you did not visit Eilean Donan Castle, or simply take in the views. Continuing through the Cairngorm Mountains, we reach Pitlochry, a charming Victorian town on the River Tummel. Our final stop is South Queensferry for views of the iconic Forth Bridges before returning to Edinburgh around 6.30–7pm.

There is also an option to start or end in Glasgow; the itinerary will be slightly altered.
