Private Tour to Isle of Skye from Inverness
Description
Our private tour departs from the Highland capital of Inverness for the iconic Isle of Skye.
Although Skye is the star of today's tour, the journey takes us alongside the renowned Loch Ness. Perhaps there will be a chance to spot the monster, Nessie!
We take a brief stop to capture photos of the romantic Eilean Donan Castle. This iconic castle is recognised worldwide as a star of photos and screen.
From here we have the option of crossing by the Glenelg Ferry or Skye Bridge. Glenelg Ferry is the last manually operated turntable ferry in Scotland. Stunning landscape on the drive from both the mainland and Skye. This option is season and only for small groups. (additional £15-25)
We then go Over the Sea to Skye. Keep an eye out for sea-eagles and seals. Skye is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides, it was home to the Lords of the Isles and has a rich and fascinating story to tell.
The entrance to the winged isle is breathtaking. We pass by the towering Cuillin Mountains, past Sligachan towards Portree. Portree is the largest town on the island with a colourful harbour. We will stop for a quick lunch here.
In the afternoon we will have 2 options to explore the Misty Isle.
Option 1: Enjoy a scenic tour through Trotternish through the amazing landscape of Northern Skye. Some geologic sights we will see are Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock and the Quiraing.
Option 2: Visit Dunvegan Castle, home to the Clan Macleod. A fairytale castle with stories of Chieftains, Faeries and history.
We then head towards Kyleakin for a photo opportunity of the breathtaking bridge to Skye. Here we get fabulous views over Loch Alsh and of the graceful bridge linking the island to the mainland. On the drive back to Inverness we stop at the historic town of Beauly.
