This half day tour from Edinburgh goes to Hopetoun House which is just outside the city. One of the first country homes in Scotland it is a grand piece of architecture. The house has a large estate on the waterfront offering great Firth of Forth from it's roof top terrace. The drive to the Hopetoun Estate is about 45 minutes from Edinburgh city centre.
Upon arrival you will have the first glance at the elegance of this neo-classical design. This has been home to the Hope Family since the late 17th century. The first Hopetoun House was designed William Bruce in 1699, then extended by William Adam in 1721 (finished by his sons). Two very influential Scottish architects of their time. Highlights of the house include the libraries, Yellow and Red Drawing Rooms, State dining rooms and Adams Stables which is now the Tearoom.
The 5 star visitor attraction of Hopetoun House and Estate was also featured in the popular TV series Outlander. On a private road through the estate we can access Midhope Castle. Now sitting derelict the exterior was used for the fictional Lallybroch. We will also have the opportunity to browse the Farm Shop which offers a great selection of Scottish produce and gifts.
Note: Midhope Castle is on part of the private estate which is sometimes closed for maintenance or other reasons.
In total the tour will take about 4 hours.
