From Edinburgh we will take you on a private tour to Blair Castle and Highland Perthshire. An area also known as Big Tree Country and home to the Duke of Athol.

The first stop of the day will be at a woodland walk at the Hermitage to the Black Linn Waterfalls. Keep an eye out for Red Squirrels and leaping Salmon.

Then we go to the Queen's View. Originally the favourite spot for Robert the Bruce's Queen Isabella. But in 1866 Queen Victoria visited and assumed the stunning views of Loch Tummel were named after here.

After we then visit Blair Castle which is lays in a fairytale like setting. Guarding the Cairngorm Mountains, there has been a castle here since at least the 1200s. The medieval castle was part of a hunting expedition for Mary Queen of Scots; the tower was built during her time. It was the last castle ever seized in Scotland, in 1746 by its very own George Murray. Later transformed into a Georgian Mansion then a Victoria Castle. Queen Victoria visited here for 3 weeks as she was looking for a castle to purchase herself. She granted the Athol Highlanders to bare arms which makes it the only private army in Europe. You can see them on parade at the Athol Gathering Highland Games. The castle is open to the public during the summer months.

For lunch we can either go to the Athol Arms Hotel across from the castle or go to the Victorian town of Pitlochry. As an option we can offer a visit to Whisky Distillery where we get a chance to see the whisky making process then have a sample at the end of the tour.

Blair Athol Distillery is a distillery in the Victorian town of Pitlochry. A highland single malt founded in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson. The name originates from the Allt Dour burn where the originally distillery was based. Enjoy their signature tour with a tasting of whisky at the end.
